Happy New Year!

I would like to extend my warmest New Year's greetings to all officials and members of our associations, and sincerely hope that you are enjoying a peaceful and fulfilling beginning to the year.
 
The year of 2025 was a year of great significance and challenge for both the All Japan Karate-do Goju-Kai Association and the International Karate-do Goju-Kai Association, in that we successfully held the 8th Goju-Kai Karate-do Global Championship Japan 2025 at Chiba Port Arena.
 
I would like to once again express my deepest gratitude to all those who participated for their generous support and cooperation.
 
Amid a complex international climate, it was truly meaningful that karate practitioners from around the world were able to gather under the shared ideals of Unity by Friendship, Appreciation and Peace. I am deeply delighted that we were able to pass on the “Breath of Goju” taught by our founder, Grand Master Gogen Yamaguchi, to the next generation.
 
Athletes in the competition accepted the official judgments and used their victory or defeat as nourishment for their own training and self-improvement. The organizers of this international exchange sincerely hope everyone continues to foster friendships that transcend nations and races - friends who respect the martial spirit, uphold courtesy, and understand the importance of unity and mutual cooperation.
 
This year, seminars or competitions are planned in each regional block - Asia, Africa, Oceania, South America, and Europe - which we were unable to conduct last year.
 
The Japanese Zodiac sign for the year ahead is Hinoe-Uma (Fire Horse), a year said to be filled with powerful energy born from the convergence of fire elements, bringing passion, momentum, and opportunities for great leaps and new challenges.
 
For myself, this year provides a wonderful opportunity to express my gratitude by visiting our overseas branches. I will take care to maintain my physical condition in line with these plans and, at the age of 83 - my own Year of the Horse - I will enjoy this dynamic and spirited year to the fullest.
 
To all members who devoted themselves to the successful execution of last year’s international championship, I sincerely ask that you further apply the experience, dedication, and achievements cultivated through your efforts, contributing both to your own continued success and to the further development of our associations.
 
With these wishes, I offer my New Year’s greetings.

明けましておめでとうございます。

本会役員、会員各位におかれましては良い年をお迎えられたこととお慶び申し上げます。
「第8回空手道剛柔会グローバル選手権大会 Japan 2025」を千葉ポートアリーナに於いて無事開催出来ました令和7年度は私共一般社団法人 全日本空手道剛柔会・国際空手道剛柔会にとって大変有意義で試練の年で御座いました。

ご支援、ご協力を賜りました関係各位には改めて御礼を申し上げます。
諸問題を抱える国際情勢の中、“友愛・感謝・平和への団結”を掲げて世界の仲間が一堂に会することが出来ました。 会祖山口剛玄先生の“剛柔の息吹”を次世代へ継承出来ましたことを心から喜んでおります。

参加された選手は空手道競技による「勝ち・負け」の判定を己の修練、自己達成への糧とされ、国際交流を支えた私達は　“尚武の気風を尊重し、礼節と団結互助の精神を理解し合える国と人種を超えた”　仲間づくりを今後も大切にしたいと願うもので御座います。
本年は昨年実施出来なかった、アジア、アフリカ、オセアニア、南米、ヨーロッパの各ブロックに於いてセミナー又は競技大会が計画されております。

今年は丙午（ひのえうま）で火のエネルギーが重なり、情熱と勢いに満ちたパワフルな年となり、大きな飛躍と挑戦のチャンスといわれる年回りです。

私にとりましては外国支部へのお礼参りの良い機会ですので計画に合わせた体力調整に気を付け、83歳の午年を跳躍、満喫いたします。

昨年の国際大会実行にご尽力を戴きました会員の皆様は苦労と努力によって培ったご業務実績を更に生かして、ご自身のご活躍と本会発展にご貢献下さいますよう切にお願い申し上げまして新年の挨拶といたします。

Happy New Year!

To the leaders, members, and all those affiliated with the International Karate-do Goju-kai and All Japan Karate-do Goju-kai, I wish you good health and happiness.

This year marks the 42nd year of the 60-year cycle in the Japanese zodiac, known as the year of Kinoto-mi. It is considered a year with the meaning of "making continuous efforts to create stability."

The prosperity of society and the lives of individuals all depend on the accumulation of effort, which is commonly understood.

In recent years, with the call for unity amidst global divisions, we at IKGA and JKGA aim for growth, awareness, harmony, and unity through karate-do, and will host the upcoming global championship in Japan.

The 8th Global Karate-do Goju-kai Championship - Japan is a gathering of the Gojukai family that carries on the philosophy of "Goju no Ibuki" espoused by the late former president, Gogen Yamaguchi. This international event, held every four years, was interrupted by the COVID-19 global pandemic and it has been 8 years since the 7th Global Championship in Canada - 2017.

The world has moved forward toward recovery and economic stability after overcoming this pandemic, but it is truly regrettable that human peace continues to be threatened by wars, conflicts, climate change, environmental pollution, and other international issues.

We are now fully preparing for international exchange after 8 years.

This year marks significant milestones: the 80th anniversary of Japan's post-war period, the 75th anniversary of JKGA's establishment, the 60th anniversary of IKGA's establishment, and my 35th anniversary as President. Our ideal and hope at Karate-do Goju-kai is to encourage the training of Goju-ryu karate-do, fostering individuals who can grow as people and contribute to society, and for each person to enjoy life and share joy with friends around the world.

We have given this championship the subtitle "Unity by Friendship, Appreciation and Peace."

With respect for people, gratitude for everything around us, and a strong desire for peace, let us unite at the "8th Global Karate-do Goju-kai Championship - Japan."

明けましておめでとうございます

国際空手道剛柔会及び全日本空手道剛柔会の指導者,会員、関係各位におかれましてはご健勝のこととお慶び申し上げます。

今年の60年周期で巡る日本の干支（えと）は42番目乙巳（きのとみ）の年です。

努力を重ねて、物事を安定させてゆく」意味合いを持つ年とされています。

社会の繁栄そして個々の人生も全て努力の積み重ねが大切な事は万人が知る処です。

近年、世界の分断が叫ばれる中、私たちIKGA・JKGAは空手道を通して成長と自覚、調和、団結を目指してグローバル選手権大会を日本にて開催いたします。

 

空手道剛柔会第8回グローバル選手権大会―Japan」は前会長故山口剛玄先生によって息吹かれた「剛柔の息吹」の理念を継承したGojukai家族の集いです。

4年毎に巡回されるこの国際イベントは世界中を陥れた「COVID-19」によって中断され、「第7回グローバル選手権大会カナダー2017」から 8ｶ年が経過しました。

世界がこのパンデミックを乗り越え、復興と経済安定に向けて前進してまいりましたがその後、多くの国際問題による戦争、紛争と気候変動、環境汚染等によって人類の平和が脅かされていることは誠に残念なことで御座います。

 

私達は8年振りの国際交流に向けて今全力で準備を進めております。

本年は日本の戦後80周年、ＪＫＧＡ創立75周年、ＩＫＧＡ創立60周年、そして私が会長に就任して35周年を迎える節目の年と成りました。

我が空手道剛柔会の理想と希望は剛柔流空手道の修練を励みとして一人ひとりが人として成長し社会に貢献できる人材を育成すること、そしてそれぞれが人生をエンジョイ、世界の仲間と喜びを分かち合うことであります。

この選手権大会のサブタイトルを「友愛・感謝・平和への団結」と致しました。

私たちは人々への敬意と自分を取り巻く全てへの感謝と平和を熱望して「空手道剛柔会第8回グローバル選手権大会―Japan」で団結いたしましょう。

2024 New Year message from Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi

Happy New Year! 

I am thankful that we can welcome the new year of 2024 in good health.

This year's Japanese Zodiac sign, which cycles every 60 years, is Kinoe/Tatsu.

“Kinoe” is the first kanji of the zodiac sign, and represents rapid growth, flowering, and development. The zodiac sign “Tatsu” or Dragon, represents an image of the whole body being bathed in sunlight.

According to the Yin-Yang-Gogyo philosophy, the year of Kinoe/Tatsu is said to be the year in which spring sunlight helps people grow.

60 years ago, Kinoe/Tatsu was in 1964. It was the year that the Tokyo Olympics were held, and which caused the Japanese economy to skyrocket.

It was also the year that I went to the United States for a year to further my training and to develop an international mindset.

This year your efforts and growth will be nurtured, and your hidden talents may also bloom.

Analyze where you stand, solidify your footing, and improve with confidence.

Last year, the All Japan Karatedo Goju-kai visited Okinawa to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the passing of Goju-ryu Karatedo’s founder, Chojun Miyagi Sensei. At his gravesite, we vowed to further dedicate ourselves, pass on the tradition, and further develop Karate-do.

We will return to the origins of Goju-ryu Karatedo's philosophy and techniques, continue to train, and aim to enrich and expand our organization. We will continue “nurturing young people” and focus on “unity and mutual support”.

The annual JKGA  national tournament will be held on September 1st at the Yoyogi 2nd Gymnasium.

We have received requests from Asian countries to hold the 8th Asia Pacific Championship Seminar in Thailand and this is currently under consideration.

This year, we will begin planning and organizing the 8th Karate-do Goju-kai Global Championship to be held in Japan in 2025, and we hope that it will be a successful event. We appreciate your continued support and efforts.

We sincerely hope that we can revive the international exchanges that had been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. I hope this will contribute to raising awareness of global environmental issues and realizing world peace without war.

 

2024 Motto:

黙して地に伏し　天を仰ぐ (mokushite chi ni fushi ten wo aogu)

猫虎龍鶴を夢想　空拳を愛しまん (byoukoryukaku wo musou kuuken wo itoshiman)

Meaning: I silently pray and give thanks while shouting my wishes to the sky. I imagine the Cat, Tiger, Dragon and Crane, and continue to love Karate-do.

新年のご挨拶

新年明けましておめでとうございます

令和6年の新年を健やかに迎えられましたこととお慶び申し上げます。

 

60年周期で巡る今年の干支は「甲辰」（きのえ・たつ）です。

十干の「甲」は急成長、開花、発展を表し、十二支「辰」は降り注ぐ日の光を全身で浴びているイメージです。

「陰陽五行思想」では「甲辰」の年は“春の日差しが、あまねく成長を助ける年”と言われております。

60年前の「甲辰」は１９６４年、日本経済を急上昇させた東京オリンピック開催の年でした。

私自身も国際感覚を身に着けるべくアメリカ合衆国に渡航して1年間の武者修行をした年です。

あなたの努力と成長が助成され、隠れた才能もまた開花するかもしれません。

ご自身の足元をしっかり見定め、踏み固めて自信を持って向上しましょう。

 

昨年、一社　全日本空手道剛柔会は流祖宮城長順先生の没70周年追悼沖縄訪問において更なる精進と継承、発展を墓前に誓ってまいりました。

剛柔流空手道の理念と技術の原点に戻って修練を積み重ね「青少年育成」、「団結互助」を目指して組織の充実、拡張を図ります。

 

恒例の全国大会は9月1日に国立代々木第2体育館において開催致します。

タイ国での「第8回アジアパシフィック選手権大会・セミナー」開催をもアジア各国よりリクエストされておりますので検討されることと成りました。

そして本年は2025年日本開催、「空手道剛柔会第8回グローバル選手権大会」実施と成功を目指して準備、企画をスタート致しますので宜しくご尽力、ご支援下さいます様切にお願い申し上げます。

 

コロナで中断された国際交流を復活し「地球環境問題」への関心と戦争の無い「世界平和」への実現に貢献いたしたく切望しております。

2023 New Year message from Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi

Happy New Year! 

Congratulations on ringing in another year in good health.

 In last year’s message, I said that the dawn should not be an expectation of returning to the original state, but an evolution of ourselves awakened to adaptation to the new world and self-management. I believe that we were all able to achieve this.

 Every year in Japan, the calendar is represented by the zodiac (Eto).

 The calendar was used as a means of exploring the future in ancient China, and consists of both the 10-year cycle of the 10 zodiac signs and the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, which is symbolized by animals. The two calendars overlap in cycles of 60 years, with each cycle having its own meaning. 

The Chinese zodiac sign for 2023 is Mizunoto, U. “U” is symbolized with a rabbit. 

The meaning of "Mizunoto" is the period when the the air begins to warm after the harsh winter, and in terms of the cycle of life, it represents the state where the preparation for the next stage of life is completed. 

The rabbit in the Chinese zodiac represents the year when plants bloom, covering the ground and promoting new growth. 

The two zodiacs together imply that this will be the long-awaited year when the world, which has been stagnant for so long, is able to break out and hope begins to sprout. 

I can't help but hope for the arrival of a peaceful world where people can live safely without war.

Since 2020, we have been unable to live up to our fullest potential. Global medical issues and economic stagnation due to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, forced the cancellation, postponement, and restrictions on holding events.

We are looking forward to resuming activities this year.

There are still wars and harsh environments in some regions and countries. I hope that meaningful technical training, competitions, friendship exchanges, etc., will resume both domestically and internationally.

"The 8th Karatedo Gojukai Global Championship - Tokyo", which was to be jointly hosted by IKGA and JKGA was postponed in 2021 and 2022 due to the spread of the corona virus. Unfortunately it was decided that it couldn’t be held at that time.

Looking at the international situation, we have decided to return to a four-year cycle and plan to hold the next event in Japan in 2025.

JKGA will restart the preparations for the 8^th Karatedo Gojukai Championship - Tokyo, create requirements, and provide information to each country.

新年明けましておめでとうございます

皆さまに於かれましては健やかに新年を迎えられたこととお慶び申し上げます。

昨年、夜明けは元の環境に戻ることへの期待としてでは無く、新しい体制への適合と自己管理に目覚めた自分自身の進化としなければならないと申しましたが、皆様は進化の年として厳しい世相を乗り超えられたことと存じます。

日本では毎年、暦を干支（えと）で表します。

暦は中国古来の未来を探る手段として使われ、10年周期の十干（じっかん）と動物がシンボルとなる12年周期の干支（えと）で構成されます。

暦は二つが重なって60年周期で循環し、それぞれ意味があります。

2023年の干支（えと）は癸卯（みずのと　う）です。卯（う）はうさぎです。

十干の癸（みずのと）の意味は厳冬から寒気（かんき）が緩む時期を表し、生命の循環で言えば次の生命を育む準備が完了した状態を表しています。十二支のうさぎ卯は草木が地面を覆（覆う）うようになった状態で萌芽（ほうが）を促（うなが）す年を表します。

今年は永く停滞していた世の中が明け始めて、希望が芽吹く待望の年になる事を暗示しています。

人々が安全に過ごせる戦争の無い平和な世界の訪れを熱望せずにはおれません。

私達は2020年以後、新型コロナ感染拡大の為に医療困難、経済低迷に至り、行事開催の中止や延期、制限等によって充分な力量発揮をする事が出来ませんでした。

今年こそ活発な活動が復活再開されることを期待する所で御座います。

まだまだ戦争や厳しい環境の国や一部の地域もございますが国内、海外共に有意義な技術研修、競技大会、親善交流等が再開されます事を願っております。

IKGA及びJKGA合同開催による「第8回空手道剛柔会グローバル選手権大会―東京」はコロナ感染拡大によって2021年から2022年に延期されましたが残念ながら実現出来ませんでした。

国際状況を顧みて4年周期に戻し2025年に日本にて開催を企画します。

JKGAは開催準備企画を再スタートさせ要項を作成して各国にお知らせ致します。

This year, 2022, I turned 80. I received many notes of appreciation and wishing me good health on the occasion of my birthday, as well as gifts from all over the world. There were so many messages that I can't express my thanks to each person individually. I want to let everyone know that I very much appreciate everyone who took the time to send a note through email and other means. It was touching to receive your notes and gifts and I am grateful for every one of them. 

I also received a video containing birthday greetings from each member country. I watched the entire video and I am touched by all the heartfelt well wishes from everyone. Thank you. 

I am reinvigorated and inspired by the outpouring of well-wishes from all members worldwide, and I will do my best to keep in good health well past my 81st birthday. I look forward our future together as we share in our practice of Karate-do. I would also like to wish everyone continued good health and prosperity.

２０２２年 新年明けましておめでとうございます
2022 Happy New Year!

新年を健やかにお迎えのことと心から御慶び申し上げます。

I am truly happy to welcome the New Year in good health with everyone.

 

昨年、地球規模の災害等によって被災された方々には心からお見舞いを申し上げます。

I would also like to express my deepest sympathies to those affected by global scale natural disasters over the past year.

 

コロナパンデミックは世界中に激震が走り、その影響は計り知れないダメージとして歴史に刻まれました。

The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the world and its effects have left us with immeasurable damage that will be inscribed in history.

 

私達の生活環境も大きく変化し、社会形態、コミュニケイションの在り方にも多大な波紋を投げかけました。

Our lifestyle has changed drastically, and it has created great ripples and fissures in how we relate to one another and communicate in our society.

 

此の試練を受けて私達は　”何時かは夜が明ける”　ことを信じてまいりました。

Through this disaster, we continue to believe that “someday the dawn will come”.

 

しかし、夜明けは元の環境に戻ることへの期待としてでは無く、新しい体制への適合と自己管理に目覚めた自分自身の進化としなければなりません。

However, that “dawn” is not the expectation that we will return to our original state, but rather an evolution of ourselves, awakened to adaptation to the new world.

 

私達もこの２年間、コロナ禍にあって行事、交流等の中止による厳しい活動制限が強いられました。

For the past 2 years we have been forced to restrict activities with the cancellation of events, exchanges, and so forth due to the pandemic.

 

そのような中にあってもIKGAは指導者、、会員のそれぞれの地域によって交流、団結を図ることが出来ました。

Even under these circumstances IKGA has been able to connect with all of the IKGA Block leaders and instructors.

 

ＪＫＧＡは従来の組織から政府が認定する一般社団法人登記を達成致しました。

JKGA was able to receive governmental approval to change from its previous form and to register as an incorporated association.

 

ご支援、ご協力賜りました皆様方に衷心より御礼を申し上げます。

I would like to express my sincere thanks for everyone’s support and cooperation.

 

2022年に向けて、一般社団法人　全日本空手道剛柔会JKGA及び国際空手道剛柔会IKGAは新たな使命感を以って社会に貢献する決意でございます。

Looking ahead to 2022, the All Japan Karatedo Gojukai (JKGA) Incorporated Association and the International Karatedo Gojukai (IKGA) have a new sense of mission to contribute to society.

 

次世代への人材育成は私達に課せられた重要な責務です。

Education for the next generation is an important responsibility for us.

 

安全と危機管理、信頼と相互理解は世界各国の将来にとって大きな課題であります。

Safety and crisis management, as well as trust and mutual understanding, are major challenges for the future of countries around the world.

 

私は武道古来の精神文明を見直さねばならないと考えます。

I think it is important that we revise our thinking with regard to traditional martial arts.

 

自由とは自分勝手で何をしても許される訳ではありませんね。

Freedom does not mean that you can do anything you want without consequence.

 

自由には権利と義務が生じ、時には忍耐することも必要となる筈です。

Freedom comes with rights and obligations, and sometimes we need to have patience.

 

子供のころから正しいこと、正しくないこと、良いこと、悪いことの分別をしっかり身につけることが大切です。

It is vital to learn from childhood what is right, what is not right, what is good and what is bad.

 

空手道を修練することとは体術を通して正しい生き方を学ぶことであると確信します。

I am convinced that practicing karate is to learn how to live your life correctly through physical training.

 

空手が強く、上手になることは人としての価値をも高める大きなチャンスとなります。

Becoming strong and more proficient at karate is a good opportunity to improve your value as a person.

 

会員の皆さんは今年も練習を重ねて上達し、自信を高めましょう。

Let all our members strive again this year to improve and increase our confidence.

 

自信が付いたら責任を以って人と社会に接し、世の中の為に成る、人材として成長するよう努力しましょう。

When we feel confident, let’s take responsibility for how we deal with people and society, and strive to grow as a human resource that benefits the world.

世界中の大事な宝物となることを自覚して、自分も他人も大切にして守り、希望を胸に日々生活して戴きたいと切望いたします。
